American Window Film installed window security film to the Jefferson County Courthouse in Port Townsend, Washington! This is a beautiful historic building that is located on the coast. The county was looking for increased security for the courthouse in addition to its existing security system. As you can see from the photo below, there is a ton of glass throughout the building and a break-in would be very easy. The county has a glass company that they work with who is an existing customer of American Window Film’s. They specialize in historical building restoration and we have been fortunate enough to do a lot of similar work for them in years past. When the county contacted the glass company about their security issues, the glass company instantly thought of working with American Window Film and installing window security film to the glass throughout the courthouse.
American Window Film’s goals for this project was to work closely with the glass company to make sure the customer gets what they are looking for. When our Seattle sales representative met with the glass company he learned that the customer was having problems with security and was looking for a way to strengthen their glass. Originally, the customer was looking for a tinted security window film to increase security and privacy. Our sales representative walked the courthouse and took a look at the glass in question.
Before walking the property and hearing that the customer wanted increased privacy and security, our sales representative suggested 3M Ultra Prestige 50. This is a tinted security window film that ultimately increases privacy, reduces heat and glare, and increases security. However, after walking the property and working with the glass company, our sales representative suggested Solar Gard Stainless Steel 35 4 mil. He suggested this window film as opposed to the 3M Ultra Prestige 5o because the glass is thin and he was concerned about cracking the glass. The Prestige window film is heavier than the Solar Gard film so he recommended this option to mitigate any potential issue with the installation.
After working with the glass company and hearing what American Window Film had to say, the customer decided to take our recommendation and install the Solar Gard Stainless Steel 35 4 mil to the glass throughout the courthouse. This option still has a tint to it so it will increase privacy, reduce heat, and increase security. Window security film is installed right on the glass surface and immediately strengthens the glass by 2-3 times. When installed with a silicone attachment, window security film strengthens glass even more. Window security film protects against natural disasters and intruders. In the case of an intruder, window security film prolongs forced entry time and allows more time for help to arrive on the scene. Window security film also holds shattered glass together, which greatly increases safety.
This installation ended up being 1,089 square feet of window security film on the glass throughout the courthouse. It took a team of installers two days to complete. We talked with our Seattle sales representative and asked him what his overall thoughts were on the project. He said, “overall, this project went great and American Window Film is happy that we helped the customer increase the security at the courthouse.” That is what we like to hear! In addition to window security film, American Window Film also services solar film, decorative window film, custom graphics, anti-graffiti film, and exterior building wraps throughout the West Coast.
