American Window Film’s goals for this project were to work with the customer on finding a security window film solution that will protect against future break-ins. Our sales representative met with the customer at the school to take a look at the building in question and to take exact measurements of the windows and doors. He spoke with the customer and learned what concerns they had and what they wanted the security film to achieve. The customer’s main goals for the window security film was protecting the school from future break-ins and increase of the students and the faculty. The school is always looking to improve their safety plan and felt security window film was the perfect addition.

Since the customer previously had window security film installed to other buildings in the school and was happy with the outcome, our sales representative suggested the same film for this building. Our sales representative not only suggested this window film because it’s the same one they previously used, he also suggested it because it offers the most strength and security out of all other security films at that thickness. Our sales representative also showed the customer a few samples of other window security films on the market so they could choose the one they thought would work best for this building.

What the Customer Chose

Since the customer was so happy with the results of their previous security film installations, they decided to install the same window security film to this building. The security film they previously used is called 3M Ultra S800. 3M Ultra S800 is an 8 mil security film that provides increased strength and tear resistance. It strengthens glass by 2-3 times and prolongs forced entry time. It will take intruders longer to break through glass, which will allow more time for help to arrive. In the case of this building, prolonged forced entry time could be what saves the school from losing over $100,000 worth of tools and equipment.

When installed with a silicone attachment, your glass is strengthened even more. The customer installed the security attachment in their previous installations and decided to also install it to this building to strengthen their glass as much as possible. One thing to note when it comes to security film installations and the silicone attachment is the silicone portion has to be completed about one week after the security film is installed. You want to be sure the window film is dried before installing the silicone attachment. 3M Ultra S800 protects your glass from potential break-ins as well as natural disasters like earthquakes and high wind. It helps hold shattered glass together, which significantly increases safety.

Results of the Window Film Installation

This installation ended up being around 300 square ft. of security window film for the entire building. It took two installers 16 hours to do the security window film installation itself and it took three installers 16 hours to do the silicone portion.
