American Window Film installed an exterior window film to Dell Technologies in Santa Clara, California! Dell Technologies is a large company that has beautiful, modern-looking buildings. An entire portion of the buildings is made entirely of glass windows, which as you can see in the photos, looks really cool. While it does look awesome, this amount of glass does pose a few problems. The business owner was having an issue with glare control from morning and afternoon sun as well as heat control in the second building stairwell. Employees were having difficulty seeing their computer screens because of the glare and the heat was making the building uncomfortable to be in.
The building owner was looking for a solution to the heat and glare issues and decided to research what their options are. In their research, they came across window film, which they thought would be a good fit because they wouldn’t have to cover up or get rid of their glass. They researched window film companies near them and found American Window Film’s website! They decided to reach out for a free quote to learn more about window film and see if it would work for them and their buildings!
American Window Film’s goals were to learn what problems the customer was having specifically and to help them find a window film that would meet all of their needs. Our sales representative met with the customer at the job site to show different window film samples and learn what they were looking for exactly. When our sales representative heard the customer was having heat and glare issues, he first thought of solar film as a potential solution. The customer said they didn’t want anything reflective, but was looking for something that would provide the most amount of heat and glare reduction.
While our sales representative was onsite he saw that the buildings have a lot of metal cross members that would make doing this job from the interior very difficult because our installation crew would have a hard time with access to the glass. Once our sales representative saw that, he let the customer know that interior window film might not be the best option. He told the business owner that there are exterior window film options that have high heat and glare reduction.
The customer agreed that exterior window film is the way to go, so our sales representative started showing samples of what the different exterior options are. Our sales representative suggested 3M PR40X. This is an exterior 3M Prestige window film that has low reflectivity and reduces a high amount of heat and glare. Everything the customer was looking for. Exterior window film is a newer technology that hasn’t been around for very long but is really cool.
Exterior window film is known for its heat and glare reduction. Exterior window film is made to withstand weathering and is durable to be outside. This specific exterior window film blocks 61% of heat, 53% of glare, and 99% of UVA and UVB rays. These ultraviolet rays are the leading cause of sun fading so the business owner can have peace of mind knowing that not only is heat and glare being reduced, but the lifespan of their furniture and belongings is being extended.
After seeing all of their different options and talking with our sales representative and hearing what he had to say, the business owner decided to go with the exterior Prestige window film. The business owner chose this option because it did check off all of their boxes. It could easily be installed to the exterior of the glass in all of the problem areas and will significantly reduce heat and reduce glare.
The customer also liked how this exterior window film doesn’t have a reflective or mirrored look to it, but rather has a smokey look which they liked. The customer would give the buildings a unique and professional look.
Since this was an exterior installation with high windows, our installation crew used a knuckle boom and ladders to reach the second story windows. The customer liked the exterior window film so much, he decided to double the scope of work to include more windows throughout the buildings. The final scope ended up being 2,802 and took a team of installers 4 days to install. We spoke with Gregg, our sales representative who worked on this project, about what his overall thoughts on this project were and he said, “Overall, the customer was very happy with not only the project, but our entire team. The customer was happy with the selection of the film and the reduction of glare and heat.” Success!
We love helping our customers find the perfect window film that will solve their problems. This was a really fun installation to do and we are very pleased with the results. We were able to help the customer find a window film that would work with access to the glass, reduce heat, reduce glare, have low reflectivity and give the building a professional look.
