Exterior Window Film Installation in Irvine, California

American Window Film installed exterior window film to the Boardwalk in Irvine, California! American Window Film is lucky enough to have worked with the Boardwalk for the past couple of years doing custom graphics installations. In our time working together, we built a great relationship so when the Boardwalk was having an issue with heat, they reached out to American Window Film to help. They were specifically looking to reduce the heat load entering the elevators through the glass.

If you own a business, work in a business, or have ever been in a commercial space with an elevator, you know how hot they can get. Especially during the hot summer months, the heat was becoming a big issue for the customer. With that being said, they were looking for a way to reduce heat in the elevators to increase comfort. They called up American Window Film to set up a time to meet with our sales representative and learn what different options they have!

American Window Film's Goals

American Window Film’s goals for this installation was to meet the customer at the job site, take a look at the problematic glass elevators, help the customer find a solution, and maintain our awesome relationship with the Boardwalk! Jeff, our sales representative for our Orange County office, met the customer at the job site to do just this. At the site visit, his goals are to learn the specific details and goals of the project, take exact measurements of the glass, and provide the customer with their different window film options.

When Jeff was onsite and talking with the customer, he learned that there are two elevators in the parking garage that have glass windows facing southeast. These elevators get extremely hot and cause people to feel like they are in a “sauna.” The customer explained that their main goal was to reduce heat, but the look of the glass was very important to them, and they didn’t want a mirrored product.

American Window Film's Recommendations

After Jeff met with the customer on-site and learned the specific details of the project he was able to educate on the different window film options they have and provide some suggestions. Since the look of the glass was very important to the customer and they didn’t want the aesthetics to change, Jeff suggested 3M exterior Prestige, which is an exterior window film. He suggested the exterior Prestige line because it’s a very non-reflective, high-performing window film that is maximum heat reducing and doesn’t require a silicone bead. From there, Jeff talked with the customer about the different window films within that line and what each of them offers.

What the Customer Chose

After talking with Jeff and learning about all of their different options, the customer decided to take his suggestion and go with 3M exterior Prestige, specifically 3M Exterior Prestige 40. The customer decided to go with this window film for a few reasons. First and foremost, it had to be an exterior window film due to accessibility from the interior. Secondly, it’s a non-reflective window film, which means the overall aesthetics of the glass isn’t going to change much and provides substantial heat rejection.

This exterior window film rejects 61% of heat, 53% of glare, and 99.9% of UVA and UVB rays. Blocking 61% of heat is going to make a noticeable difference in the temperature of the elevators. People will no longer feel like they are in a “sauna” and everyone should be more comfortable overall. Since this is an exterior window film, it is designed to withstand weathering while providing heat and glare rejection.

Results of the Window Film Installation

This installation ended up being 2,700 square feet of exterior window film and took a team of two installers four full days to complete. We asked Jeff what his overall thoughts of the project were and he said, “Overall, it went very smoothly and we were able to help the customer with their heat problem.” That’s what we like to hear! We were able to help the customer find a window film solution that reduces heat and doesn’t change the overall aesthetics of the glass. In addition to exterior window film and solar film, American Window Film also services decorative window film, custom graphics, anti-graffiti film, window security film, and exterior building wraps.
