This case study is going to be about a homeowner that has beautiful ocean views but was having a problem with sun fading and was looking for UV protection while maintaining their ocean views. If you are a homeowner or a business owner that are experiencing similar problems with sun fading, this case study is going to talk about what American Window Film’s professional experts recommended, what the customer chose, and the specific window film details and performance! This was a 3M Prestige window film installation in Laguna Beach, California!
This home is right on the ocean and has beautiful ocean views from all west-facing windows. To utilize these ocean views as much as possible, the home has a ton of large glass windows and glass doors throughout it. Unfortunately, this amount of glass lets in a lot of light and heat. The customer was concerned about sun fading on the wood floors, furniture, paintings, etc. They were looking for a UV protection solution that would help them with sun fading, without compromising their views and they came across window film online. They researched different window film companies in their area and came across American Window Film’s website and decided to reach out for a free window film quote to see if it would be a good solution to their sun fading problem!
American Window Film’s goals were to meet the customer at their home to take a look at the problem causing windows and help the homeowner find a solution to their sun fading problem...and that’s just what we did! Our sales representative met the homeowner at the home to look at the glass, take exact measurements of the glass, and educate and show the homeowner all of the different window film options they have for their home that will help protect against sun fading!
When our sales representative met the customer at the home his goal was to obtain and learn as much detail as possible to suggest a window film that would work best for the customer and what they are looking for! The homeowner explained to our sales representative that there is so much light that comes through the glass at all times throughout the day. The customer explained that they noticed their wood floors and furniture were starting to get warped and faded from the sun. The homeowner said that their main goal is to protect their valuable belongings from sun fading, without compromising their ocean views at all.
After our sales representative talked with the homeowner and learned what the customer was looking for specifically, he suggested ceramic or non-metalized products since the home is so close to the ocean. These types of window films provide the best installation and results for glass that is close to the ocean. The Huper Optik ceramic window tint line and the 3M Prestige window film line are two of the best lines on the market and Jeff, the sales representative that was working on this project, suggested either of these products for this installation.
After working with our sales representative and learning about all of the different options they have, the customer decided to go with a 3M Prestige window film, specifically 3M Prestige 40. The customer chose 3M Prestige 40 because it’s one of the best non-metalized films available on the market. When it comes to window film and protecting against sun fading, all window films are going to block 99% of UVA and UVB rays, which are the leading cause of sun fading. With that being said, the customer had a lot of options to choose from as any one of them was going to significantly help with their sun fading issue.
By blocking 99% of these ultraviolet rays, the lifespan of their wood floors, furniture, and paintings is going to be extended. In addition to the UV protection, this 3M Prestige window film blocks 60% of heat and 55% of glare which will make the home more comfortable, energy-efficient, and will lower their electricity bill. Since this window film contains no metals or dyes, it has low reflectivity and isn’t going to change the aesthetics of the home. The homeowner will still have full ocean views out of the glass!
The homeowner decided that this was the perfect solution for their sun fading issue and they had this 3M Prestige window film installed to glass throughout the entire home! This installation ended up being 575 total square feet of 3M Prestige window film and it took a team of three installers two full workdays to complete! We asked Jeff what his overall thoughts were on the project and he said, “this project turned out great! I love being able to help customers solve the issues they are having!”
Overall, this installation was a success! American Window Film was able to help the customer find a window film that will protect their floors, furniture, and paintings from sun fading without compromising their beautiful ocean views! In addition to 3M Prestige window film and solar film, American Window Film also services decorative window film, custom graphics, anti-graffiti film, window security film, and exterior building wraps!
