Retail owners, this case study is directed at you! American Window Film installed a 3M window film to a clothing store in San Jose, California! Are you ever worried that the sun is fading your expensive clothing you’re trying to sell? Are you worried about sun fading but don’t want to prevent window shoppers from being able to see into your store? If you answered yes to either of these questions, this case study might be beneficial to you as this business owner was in the same situation. The business owner has expensive designer clothing that is out for display for people walking by to easily see.
To let people easily see into the store, she has large glass storefront windows. The sun shines right through the storefront windows all day and directly hits the expensive clothing. She was worried that the clothing was eventually going to get faded from the sun and was looking for UV protection, without losing visibility into the store. She did research online for different UV protection options and came across a UV window film on American Window Film’s website. The business owner decided to reach out to American Window Film and meet with a sales representative to see if window film would be a good fit for the retail store!
American Window Film’s goals for this project were to help the business owner find a UV solution for her storefront glass that would protect the clothing from sun fading without preventing views inside of the store. Our sales representative met the business owner at the store to take a look at the storefront glass, take exact measurements of the panes, and show the business owner different window film samples that might work for this project.
A fun fact about window film is that regardless of what one you choose, it will block 99% of UVA and UVB rays. These UVA and UVB rays are the leading cause of sun fading. So basically, the business owner is in luck! Our sales representative asked questions and gather more information to learn the specifics of what the customer was looking for to provide the appropriate suggestions for the storefront glass.
Since the customer’s main goal was to provide UV protection and protect the clothing from sun fading, our sales representative had a lot of different directions to go in since they will all block 99% of UVA and UVB rays. Since the business owner still wanted the ability to see into the store our sales representative thought of a solar film for this project. He started showing the customer different solar film samples that would block ultraviolet rays and still allow visibility into the store.
Different solar films provide different benefits. Out of all the solar films on the market, our sales representative suggested 3M window film, specifically the Prestige line. Gregg, our sales representative in the San Francisco area, suggested this 3M window film line because it contains no metal, which means views into the store will be fully intact.
After seeing all the different solar film options from our sales representative, the customer decided to take his recommendation and go with the 3M window film, specifically, 3M Prestige 60. The customer ultimately chose this window film because it contains no metals, which will keep the views into the stores. This 3M window blocks 99% of UVA and UVB rays, which will extend the life of the clothing, furniture, and floor from sun fading.
Not only does this 3M window film protect against sun fading, but it also provides substantial heat rejection and glare rejection. The business owner was happy about this aspect because the store has a harsh morning sun that makes the store uncomfortably hot. This 3M window film blocks 53% of heat and 32% of glare, which will ultimately make the room more comfortable.
The customer decided to have the 3M window film installed to all of the storefront glass to maximize UV protection and heat rejection. This installation ended up being 625 total square feet of window film installed and it took our installation team 1.5 days to finish this installation. We asked Gregg, the sales representative who worked on this project what his overall thoughts were on the project. Gregg said, “the job looks amazing and nobody would ever know there is window film installed to the storefront glass. The clothes will be safe from fading and the customer was very happy with the installation.” That’s what we like to hear!
We were able to help the customer find a solution to their UV and heat problem without compromising any views into the store! The business owner can have peace of mind knowing that their expensive clothing is being protected from the damaging sun. In addition to 3M window film and UV window film, American Window Film also services solar film, decorative window film, custom graphics, anti graffiti film, window security film, and exterior building wraps to both commercial and residential settings. We have locations up and down the West Coast but are fully equipped to travel wherever your project might be.
