When it comes to residences, American Window Film does a lot of solar film work to help reduce heat, reduce glare, and protect against sun fading. However, while they aren’t as common as solar film installations, we do custom graphics installations at homes as well. If you are interested in learning how custom graphics can be utilized in a residential setting, this case study is for you! Let’s start with how American Window Film got involved in this scope of work. The homeowner was doing a home renovation project and was redoing the entire kitchen, the entryway, the floors throughout the home, and more. With that being said, there are two sets of french doors. One of them is between the kitchen and the family room and the other is between the family room and the entry of the home. The homeowner was interested in frosted glass or a design in the glass to increase privacy within the two spaces. From there, the homeowner researched frosted glass and etched glass and learned how expensive that is. The homeowner had used American Window Film in the past for a different scope of work and remembered that we have an in-house graphics department. She decided to reach out for a free consultation to see if we would be able to help her increase privacy for a more affordable price!
American Window Film’s goals for this project were to learn the specific details about the project, educate the customer about custom graphics and how it can benefit them, as well as answer any questions the homeowner may have. In order to do this, our sales representative from our San Francisco office met with the customer at the home to take a look at the glass doors and to get a better understanding of what she was looking for specifically. While onsite, the customer explained that she wanted to increase privacy between the rooms when the door is shut. When they don’t need privacy, they could easily open them up for a more open concept feel. Once our sales representative had a good understanding of what the customer was looking for, he made some suggestions and showed the customer samples of a few directions we could go in!
Since the customer was looking for increased privacy as well as a custom design, our sales representative agreed that custom graphics would be the best fit for this project! To increase privacy, our sales representative suggested cutting the custom graphics out of 3M Dusted Crystal, which looks like a frosted window film. He suggested this window film because it will prevent people from seeing through it and it works nicely for custom graphics to be cut out of. As for the custom graphics portion of the install, our sales representative talked with the customer about how we have an in-house graphics department that will be able to make her design visions come to life.
After meeting with our sales representative and hearing about the different directions she could go in, she decided to take his suggestion and cut the custom graphics out of the 3M Dusted Crystal. She agreed that it significantly increased privacy and it kept with the look of her home. The customer already had a design that she wanted for the custom graphics so she worked closely with our graphics department to bring that vision into reality. Once the artwork was created and approved, we were ready to move forward with the installation!
The homeowner decided to move forward with the custom graphics on both sets of french doors in the home. The installation ended up being 5 panes and 122 square feet of custom graphics. It took a team of 2 installers 2.5 hours to complete. The customer was happy with the outcome of the installation because we were able to increase privacy between the rooms, as well as incorporate the design she wanted all for an affordable price. One of the biggest benefits of custom graphics is that it isn’t a permanent change. If the customer decides she no longer wants it or wants to remove it if she sells the house, she easily can. That is not the case with frosted glass or etched glass. In addition to custom graphics, American Window Film also services solar film, decorative window film, anti-graffiti film, security window film, and exterior building wraps.
